About the project: The scete of Hosios Nicanor is in the lake created by the dam of Hilarion.
The objective of the project was to rescue the monument and to enhance its historic and archaeological value. The scete was built in two phases; the first in the 12th century date and the second in the 16th. It was facing serious structural problems and the perimeter rock had to be secured. The project had various particularities, such as the construction of special scaffolding and the difficult access to the monument. For the restoration of the facades grouting was performed at the masonry as well as deep pointing. To secure against dynamic stress and to strengthen the wooden elements stainless steel tie bars were placed.
