About the project: The Zakynthos Strofades monastery was built in the 13th century and is in the form kastropyrgou. The monastery is located at a highly seismic area between Pylos and Zakynthos and suffered significant damage during the earthquake of 1997. The aim of the project was to place immediate and lifesaving interventions, such as strapping and local grouting until the monument is embedded in a complete rehabilitation program. The only inhabitants are the monks of the monastery and the port does not serve large ships. For this reason the transfer of the equipment and materials was done by ferry boat, suitable for shallow waters. Temporary shelters were constructed for the accommodation of staff and the strengthening work were completed during summer.
